IIE offer different memberships programmers for various engineering disciplines. IIE conduct the Degree & Diploma level examinations in various engineering disciplines twice a year for those who for various reasons could not fulfil their ambition to become Degree or Diploma holder engineers but had to take up employment at lower level. They want to upgrade their educational qualification and improve their employment status.

IIE was incorporated by Govt. of India under section -8, formerly known as Section-25. Act 1956. IIE has been empowered to issue membership certificates to its members who fulfil the membership criteria, our student chapters are spread in almost all parts of the country. IIE have also overseas student chapters.

Govt. of India (Department of Technical & Higher Education) Ministry of Human Resource Development has recognized membership programme known as DIPIIE/ TMIIE- Equivalent to Diploma Engineering as AMIIE- Equivalent to B-Tech.
